He fell Tuesday and had surgery at 1. He fractured his right hip. He can not put any weight on it for 6 weeks. The plan is to move him to Hillcrest on Monday and with rehab get him to where he can get out of the bed and into a wheelchair with one assist. Then we hope he can return to Willow Ridge.

The Collicott sisters, LaNeta, Myrna, and Galena, returned home late Friday evening. They had spent several days in Estes Park, Colorado closing up the winter cabin. There was still lots of snow in the mountains, and it snowed big, fluffy flakes on Friday before their return home. They were also entertained by guests at the cabin on Thursday - elk at their back door!

I remember that my Great Aunt May Mahagan who lived on a farm just east of my folks, used to tell of her and Uncle Ernie Mahagan going to Doane after baby chicks. Was there a hatchery there or was it part of the elevator complex?

I believe that Guy Smith was the last farmer to raise surgarbeets in that area. He had property just east of Jude Lemmert's, just east of the state line, that had a house located about a half mile south of the highway that Guy used for his migrant laborers to stay in.
