Some Kansas History

An interesting blog I ran across. It is written by a couple of people who traveled through Cheyenne County on trip across country. I learned some things about "my" part of Kansas that I didn't know before. Thought maybe you'd like to take a picture tour along with them as they describe what they learned while visiting.

Cherry Creek

Colo Boarder

Julesburg

The Kidder Massacre

Pawnee Killer

Monument Rocks

  1. Wow, this is cool! In the pics shown under the heading Cherry Creek there are two shots of the old Douglass Homestead. In the second one is the old 53 International pickup that I "modified" by removing the doors and cutting the roof off with a cutting torch. Only God knows why I did that. I guess it seemed like the thing to do at the time.
Anyway, the pickup originally belonged to Paul Kamla but my dad bought it from Vic Stasser for $75. It used more oil than it did gas so when Dad died Mom gave it to me. I was 13 then and with three years to go before I could drive I had lots of time to think of how to "improve" it. I had a great time with it and Bobby Neville provided his fair share of elbow grease to the project.

  2. That is so Cool!! I thought someone would recognize some of these pictures. Does anyone know where the little "town" is that they camped at?

  4. The "little town" that they camped in is not part of the Douglass Homestead. It is very familiar to me but I can't clear enough cobwebs away to remember where it is. ?????

  6. Dallas,
I've been away for a couple of days. I was down by Vandenburg AFB doing some flying and just got home.
Anyway,I've tried to place that picture and put a location on it but I just can't come up with anything useful. The old car and the place they called the little ghost town or whatever are familiar but I can't put my finger on either one. Sorry.
