Ventis General Store

Does anyone remember the name of Andrew N Ventis? He and his sister Clara are listed on the 1910 Haigler census with their nephew Earnest Goodell living with them. They were general merchants and Earnest was a school teacher.
I found a white and blue ceramic rolling pin with the A.N. Ventis, General Merchandise, 1914 written in gold on it. Mom had it with some of her things I was looking at the other day and just wondered if any one else has a rolling pin, or has seen one like it. I don't remember ever hearing about the people or the store. Does anyone else know anything about these people? Census show all three were born in Iowa. Just thought the name would ring a bell with with someone that new a little history about the people.

I thought you may like to see what the rolling pin from Ventis General Merchant looked like. The ceramic part measures 8" and each hand-griper measures 4", so you see, this is really a good sized rolling pin. I agree with Don Harford about this being a promotional item. When you realize how old this is, the condition is amazing as there are no chips nor cracks in it. I appreciate the responses I have received about these Haiglerittes. Looking again at the censes, this family was around this area at least 30 years or more: 1900 census to 1930 census and listed as being merchants. Dallas Adams thought they may have lived around the Hackberry area at one time, Elaine Owens is a distant relative and Karen was going to pick Don's brain for a little more information. At this time he thought they had the clothing store in Haigler. So maybe we all will find a little more about this family that is now no longer forgotten. (Notice the phone number)

    I went back and read Don Harford's article about Haigler in the 1920s and he mentions "the Ventis Millinery and Clothing store," across the street from the creamery which was next to the Equity.

    I have just read your note about the Ventis family. My father, Leslie Harold Goodell and his father, Harold Ventis Goodell, were descendents of this family. Leslie's mother was a Ventis who came from Iowa. Ercil Goodell was also a descendent. I have been trying to get info of the Ventis family. Elaine Goodell Owens, St. Francis, Ks.
