The Old Telephone

Do you know what one of those phones are worth today, if you can find one??? Plenty!!

Guys used to remove the charging system -- operated by the crank -- and use them in devious manners to shock some unsuspecting individuals; like wires to a door knob. HEH!!! 48 Volts talking current and 96 Volts ringing current. The 96 volts is what the individual usually received when the crank was spun.

You mentioned CENTRAL -- What a business machine!!! The operator could cross patch wires from left to right and right to left; call Jake's Towing Service and at the same time call Roberta's Cafe; flip the switches to silent and monitor the call and listen to the arguments on who called who!!?? NOT ME, I was never an operator!! HEH!! HEH!!

Hilarious conversations tho!

No worse than the rubbernecks listening in on (not their call) with the partylines. Makes you wonder how so much gossip got started in Haigler!!?? News would always beat me home! HHAAAGGGHHH!!!

Let's give a hand to all those telephone operators who worked the switchboards in Haigler and the late night hours keeping the service available.

YEAH!!
