Chickens in Haigler? Is it against the law? Should you be arrested if you have chickens in the "village" limits? Well there is an ordinance for that. I guess if someone wants chickens there is a way to do it.
There is quite a discussion about this very thing happening on Facebook today. Evidently someone got ticketed by the Sheriff's office for having 8 chickens in the town limits. There is a petition going around in support of the lady who has the chickens.
Comments were made that the feed lot west of town smells worse than a few chickens. AND what about Donkeys? and Goats?
Evidently the ordinances and bylaws state that no livestock are permitted in village limits. Chickens are permitted if the resident obtains written consent from neighbors within 50 feet of your property line, and permission is granted by the village.
Well, the chicken saga goes on and it will be interesting to see how it turns out!

I just read your article on having chickens in town. Well up here in the big cities you can have chickens in town. You can't have roosters for the obvious reason. I have a customer who has five chickens right next door to her. She says they are not a bother. The city I speak of is Brighton, but I do believe they passed the law in Denver that you may own chickens.
ReplyDeleteThey better lock their hens up, Cal and Al will be in town this week-end.
