Old Haigler Newspapers

Does anyone know where the old Haigler newspapers are?

Were any of them put on microfilm?

I love reading the old papers that told of all that was happening in the community. Like who visited who etc. It would be great to see if I could run across anything about my relatives in the past.

Thanks and God bless,
Cliff Davis McCook ,Ne.

Note from Editor: I think many of the Haigler and Benkelman Newspapers were put on microfilm several years ago and are kept at the Benkelman Court House.

The Nebraska State Historical Society also has many of them for inter-library loan. However, they are renovating their building and most of the library is not accessible until they are done. If you want to find out about availability, just email Matt Piersol at: matt.piersol@nebraska.gov

Another source of information about Dundy County is the Genealogy Trails - Dundy County website.

Yet another online source of Haigler News is the Saint Francis Herald. Their paper is archived since January 2001 and includes "The Haigler Happenings".

  1. I read all of the old Haigler newspapers in the basement of the courthouse. I wish I knew what happened to all the old Haigler papers that were in the Haigler News building that my father bought. They were there, then suddenly disappeared.
I read all I could find when I worked on all the burials in the Haigler cemetery. At that time, the Nebraska Historical Society had not had the opportunity to get them, I suggested it to the people in charge of them. I hope they were sent to Lincoln to be copied!

Watch out, old newspaprs are habit-forming--but so much fun!
