Dode Faylor tells me that the Palmer House is the one that was moved from the original location south of the school to the country location. It sits south of Northrup's (not the house on Hwy 27) and it is tumbling down. Sad! Dode says it is south and west of them and they can see it from the southwest corner of their pasture.
ReplyDeleteThat would be same location I remember. We stopped in there--I think when Rich was assessor and one day I rode along. It is north of West 10 schoolhouse and through a gate a little way and around a hill. It doesn't show much from the road. I do remember Rich saying that they got the house from Sears or Wards and put it together. I don't remember if he told me it was first put up in town. But it did look like it had been moved to the place where I saw it.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Palmer was a very nice friendly woman. Loretta looks like her except that the mother was short. Loretta was doing good at track meets in grade school.
West 10 was still going then. The teacher was Myra Fuller for several years. Later West and East 10's combined and moved the East 10 schoolhouse over to the highway where it still sits. This happened when Eunice was in school there. It was used for the voting place for a long time.
I don't remember when Arch moved to town. He bought Ben Wiley's house.
Glad to see there is further interest in the blog, Sears & Roebuck homes, also.
ReplyDeleteI've often wondered about the old Van Horn place, how did all the big blocks of concrete or stone get introduced to the SW area, since there was no rock quarry in the area?? Just a thought.
DALLAS
Dad (William -Tabby Palmer) told me that he house was originally in town, but was moved to the county after Grandpa got mad because the KKK burnt a cross on the lawn in town.
