One of the projects this committee took on was the compilation and publication of a book of stories and pictures depicting the history of the community.
Members of this committee were: Joann Webster, Florence Clegg, Florence Douglass, Edith Baumfalk, Mildred Stute, Jeannie Blecha, Laura Pearl Wall, Viola Pearson, Virginia Harford, Gladys Freehling and Lois Zuege.
The book they published, is a valued treasure in many homes throughout the country. I have been trying to get my hands on one for several years, as I didn't hear about it until some time after the last book was sold. I could never talk anyone into parting with their copy!
Awhile back I included a link on this blog to AbeBooks.com because I had been able to find out-of-print books on this site in the past. One day, I decided I should check that site for the "Haigler" book and "Low-and-behold" it was listed for approximately the original price of the book.
Needless to say, I ordered it and received it yesterday in the mail. Can you imagine how I spent my evening? There are awsome stories and pictures that prompted long forgotten memories of my own. People that I had not thought about in years. Pictures of some of my own family that I had never seen before!
I have seen another Haigler book with a brown cover. I would sure like to get my hands on one of them, too. I'll keep watching!
