Weather Report from Gene & Vie's House
Just thought I'd let you know about our weather.Sunday night at 12:30 am our weather alert went off and said Sioux City and areas around us are in a bad storm warning.(of course it really started about 10 PM) but at 12 I told Gene that I had better get our flag in the house.it was lightening and thundering and slow rain then but man, I was so lucky as soon as I came in the house it really started. We got about 1 1/2 half inches of rain then and that wind was clocked at 93 mpr at our airport which is about 7 miles from us. Here it was about 79 we were told.
Gene and I were looking out at the trees and man some were almost to the ground....pretty scarry if you ask me. Some trees around Sioux City were twisted and pulled up from the ground. Lots of damage.
The past two days and nights we have had rain and last night the thunder and lightening was pretty bad, BUT no wind with it. We got 2 2/10s inches last night.
Our place is in a valley as there are hills around us. If it rains hard, we have to watch it so we don't get flooded. We have lived here 27 years now and have been lucky so far even though it has been close sometimes.
Well just thought I'd tell you about our weather here. Do hope that you all don't have an experence like this.

Bring back Those Good Old Days
Do you remember? If you have doubts about what we kids paid for a coke and a sandwich at Woolworth's in the '50s, here's proof of the era we lived....and it was a great era to live as a teenager!

Esther Walter
Esther has improved, enough to be moved back to the Hester home today. Her right side is still paralyzed and she can't speak, but she still has a spark in her eyes. The doctors are pleased with her progress thus far. Please continue to pray for her.

Independence Day - July 4, 2008
This weekend is a 3-day holiday weekend for most people.
With the gas prices being so high, most people I know are staying close to home.
What do you plan to do this weekend?

Anna Maurer - Former resident
The following comment was found on Topix.com and thought one of our readers might be able to help Greg out:
Haigler seems like a nice quiet little town. Much like the one that our family lives in here in Indiana. My great grandmother Anna Maurer lived in Haigler and I think is buried in one of the cemetaries. Her son, John, I believe built the house that they lived in in Haigler and I understand that it is still standing. I believe he is buried in Haigler as well. Would anyone in Haigler be kind enough to find the house and take a picture of it and E-mail it to me? And if there would be a tombstone on either grave would it be possible to get a picture or pictures of them as well. If it is possible, my E-mail address is ggmaurer@aol.com. I would appreciate it very much and would be willing to compensate whomever takes provides the information for me if a name and address is sent along with the pictures or information in the E-mail. Thanks so much in advance....it would save me miles of driving to visit Haigler, although I would like to do that sometime. I have a picture of my great grandmother Anna Maurer standing on the backporch of the home that I believe she lived in in Haigler. It was a white frame home then. Would appreciate any correspondence with anyone available to help.
Sincerely, Greg Maurer
