Memories
I happened to find the Haigler Blog while reading up about the 1935 republican river flood. I have read quit a few of the entries and find that it is almost like reading about my home town, which was Laird and later Wray. My name is Kay Haptonstall and I was raised on the farm southeast of Laird. We could look down the canyon, valley of the lower Arikaree River and see the village of Haigler. We used to visit several people who lived there and did business with more. While very young, I remember Charlie Roach coming up and servicing our windmills when needed. Vic Stassers International business served our repair needs even after I marriied and moved back to the farm. Many loads of wheat and milo were hauled to the Co-op Elevator. We went to get to gethers held at the legion, attended several functions at the Methodist and Luthern Churches. Lester Adams used to deliver fuel to our combine when we custom harvested for different famers in the Sanborn area. After I was married and moved back to the farm, I became a carpenter during the winter months and several projects were done in and around Haigler. One project in particular was the building of a hog confinement feeding facility for Royce Stute. I also remember many of the names whose obits were posted. Thanks for the recollection of memories. There is a saying that I beelieve in and I have done it by writing down my memories in story form and it goes like this: "If you don't or haven't written it down, it didn't or won't happen."
