Patrick Smith, private in the infantry division, stationed at camp Functon Kansas received his training and his orders to travel to a destination he was certain to be France. He was hoping it was, as his brother James was serving in Paris, France as the General’s escort, and maybe they could meet. While enroute to the troop train, the message came that the armistice was signed and they would be going back home to be discharged. He returned to his home at Yuma, Colo. His brother, James , who was in Paris serving as the Generals Aide, remained in Paris for quite a while before discharge.
