Haigler Standpipe

Hi -- This is a postcard I purchased. The back has written
"Here is the Water Works tank at Haigler which is 63 ft. high and 12 ft. across. They have curbs 10 ft. from the side walks and have this sown to blue grass which they water from the tank, it certainly looks fine in the summer, it and the trees together ".

  1. It seemed taller than 63 feet when you were on top looking down. Albert and I climbed it once and then another time I climbed it which is a story in itself to be published later. Both of the ascents were night time. The new water tower has a chain link fence around it to keep Al and I from climbing it. There was a short period of time after the new water tower was up that they didn't have the fence up, I planned on climbing it but failed to achieve that mission. Cal Freehling

  4. I remember that standpipe. And also a wooden platform or stairway??? I am not sure what it was for, I was only a child, but can remember the smell of the sap coming from the wood that it was built of. That was my first "lesson" in what "sap" was. It smelled so nice, and was gooey and sticky. I can still smell it and hear the meadow larks singing in that country setting. Very nice!!

Things were very innocent and happy in that time of my life and I really appreciate my Haigler roots!!

Not far away is the grave yard. I have always requested that when my time is over, I want to rest in that place. Haigler is a very, very good place to be.
