Yes, the rainstorm covered a large area and not only flooded the Arikaree, but also the north and south forks of the Republican River which converge at Benkelman. My grandparents lived along Cherry Creek at the time, well above the creekbed, but the water was actually as high as the steps at their front door. Cherry Creek was a raging torrent rushing on its way to the South Fork of the Republican.
