Proposed Law Would Make It Hard For Chicken Thieves
A member of the Nebraska Legislature is proposing a bill that will make it difficult for chicken thieves. It contains some striking measures which would no doubt make it difficult for said thieves but at the same time it would make it difficult for poultry raisers and legitimate produce dealers.
The following account of the proposed law appeared in the State Journal:
A bill is about to make its initial bow in the house hopper which provides that under certain circumstances, chickens shall wear leg bands and that they shall not go riding on the public highway between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Representative J. B. LaChappelle of Ashland will be the introducer. While the above paragraph indicates that the bill is intended to regulate the dress and conduct of chickens, this is not the purpose. Mr. LaChappelle offers it as a means of cutting down on poultry theft and is of the opinion that enactment of the law such as he proposes, will practically eliminate this kind of theft.

ReplyDeleteNow who would this be in reference to? 1927 was a long time ago. Are there any centenarians that can verify who stole chickens?
Maybe the leg band is on the wrong chicken? Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are going to make a congresional investigation in S.W. Nebraska to locate these individuals between 7:00 P.M. and 7:oo A.M. when they are at doing their undercover work at the chicken ranches. Look out Bro
ReplyDeleteWell, if that law would have been in force in the 1950 & 60s there are two gents who would at least know which of their flock belonged and which didn't.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the statute of limitations of this very, very serious crime of chicken theivery? Some laws get mandated into effect with very little enforcemnt manpower to check into long tedious hours of researching the offense. What is the punishnent that fits this crime? Has anybody reported any missing chickens lately? Call this number 1-800-chic-loss to report lost chickens
ReplyDeleteThanks to the last contributor for the phone number to report lost chickens... If the statute of limitations never ends, it will be a good number to have for several old farmers in the area.
ReplyDeleteJust don't leave all your eggs in one basket. Amen
ReplyDeleteAh Hah! Looking into the Crystal Ball, I see a new bird arriving, its getting closer, yes, it is a Turkey. The big guns are now focusing on bigger birds instead of more chickens in the "What's Happening mystery".
ReplyDeleteThe question is: Did any of those stolen chickens cross the road?
ReplyDeleteTransporting chicks across State lines could only be traced by the leg bands, that new law could curb the activity for stolen chickens.
ReplyDeleteThat chicken business in Kentucky might shed some light on who his suppliers are from Big Red state?
ya'll git that thar tar n'feathern-that fer north withen them thar yankee's? yep, shorn do.
So now you want to involve the Colonel in this legal battle! I think he de-feathers those poor chicks before they ever make it out of the shed, let alone across the state line. Supplying the feathers to go with the tar is probably a secret side line of his.
ReplyDeleteThe secret side line is Virgina's secret, which is very lucrative business of selling pink, yellow, green, red feathers for costume display. These poor chickens get streched to the limit of their market value. Maybe there is more money in the chicken business than previously thought? I am beginning to see the motive now.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure you aren't meaning Victoria? She also has a secret.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to go there, lets stick with chickens.
ReplyDeleteThanksgiving Dinner
ReplyDeletePaid for a turkey and got a parakeet, Im still hungry.
I guess chickens are the best bet??
WE CANT LET THE OPPOSITION KNOW OF OUR NEW STRATEGY OF ALARM DEVICES BEING INSTALLED AT THE CHICKEN RANCHES. GOODNESS SAKE, WE HAVE TO CATCH THEM FROM BRINKS ALARM SERVICE, SO THEY WILL BE SUPRISED WHEN BRINKS CALLS.
