The National Weather Service in Goodland, Kansas has spent two years on a project to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the 1935 flood that drastically changed the Republican River valley and the communities surrounding it.
The program will be presented Saturday, August 14th at 2:00 pm and will be held at the Cloud County Historical Museum located on East 7th Street in Concordia, Kansas. Personal accounts of the flood given by guests will be recorded and included in the Weather Services’ documentary. Additional activities include a small scale recreation of the 1935 flood, and the construction of 1928 Lincoln Page biplanes similar to the one Charlie Blosser used in his rescue efforts.
This event is free and appropriate for families. If there are any questions, please contact the Cloud County Museum at (785) 243-2866.
Once every two years, Kansas History publishes a series of reviews of films on Kansas/Great Plains history. Would there be a way to get a copy of the documentary for review in this summer's selection of film reviews? Tom Prasch (tom.prasch@washburn.edu)
