This past week Brent has been home during his Christmas break from college. Jerrie and Brent met Jim Roberts, Glenn, Julia, Preston, and Riley Baux for breakfast at the Haigler Cafe and then went on to Cope for a day visit to Jerrie's Mom Clara Johnston. Brent spent some time doing woodworking projects before the weather turned off really cold. He was able to visit Russ, Keree, Soren and Maren Olsen in Wray along with other friends. On New Year's Eve Jim, Jerrie and Brent all went to dinner at the Legion and then celebrated at home staying warm! New Year's Day was spent clearing snow and that evening Brent left for Kearney. Jim and Jerrie called Adam and Stephanie Wheaton that evening to wish them a Happy Second Anniversary. The Wheaton family was all happy to not be in NYC this year for the wedding. In comparison, the weather in New York City two years ago was quite a bit better.
Daniela Webster from Iowa City, Iowa arrived Dec. 24 and returned Jan 2 to spend the Holidays with her family Stan & Galena & Darrell and other relatives and friends. A trip to Estes Park during her Christmas break was taken with her parents for a few days and enjoyed with the beautiful mountain scenery. Her grandparents, Don and Joann Webster and her aunt, LaNeta Carlock, stopped by to visit with Daniela.
Ed Neville of Loup City, NE, brought his sister, Barbara Neville of Denver, CO to Haigler on Tuesday, December 28. Barbara had spent the Christmas holiday with Ed and his wife, Dawn. After visiting with his cousin, LaNeta Carlock and husband, Stan, Ed returned to his home. Barbara was a guest of the Carlocks in the Haigler White House. The forecasted winter storm brought an earlier return to Denver on Wednesday, with LaNeta returning to Haigler Wednesday night.
Alicia Crouse, a student at Hastings College, spent the holidays with her parents and family, Steven and Jody Crouse. Christmas Eve visitors to see their newly renovated country home were Stan and LaNeta Carlock.
Five Haigler area ladies, Dode Faylor, Sophia Zuege, Lois Zuege, Laura Pearl Wall and Floy Fisher rode with Dode Faylor to tour the Bob and MerryLu Simmons home near Beecher Island. MerryLu begins immediately after Thanksgiving Day to decorate their home and premises for Christmas. Among the many adornments was a decorated weed-tree reaching from floor to near the ceiling.
The group enjoyed a delicious brunch before going on to the next home to tour - The Dale Faylor home. Dode had also tastefully and beautifully decorated their home and the ladies enjoyed their choice of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and or apple pie before riding back to Haigler with MerryLu in her Van. The ladies agreed it had been an enjoyable day and they should do it again sometime.
Albert Zuege stayed overnight with his mother, Sophia Zuege on Sunday. Sophia was a supper guest of Lois Zuege on Tuesday.
Mel and Norma Fisher spent New Year's Day with Mel's mother, Floy Fisher, enjoying a good dinner together.
Garry Fisher stayed overnight Sunday with his mother, Floy Fisher and left Monday morning on his return trip to home in California. Sharon had remained at their son's home in Kansas City to baby sit nearly 10 month old Taylor so her parents could attend an important meeting. They put her on the plane to Las Vegas where Garry met her on Tuesday for the few hours' drive on to their home in Newberry Springs, CA.
Henrietta Richardson's home burned Sunday night. Henrietta is the mother of Richard Richardson (Floy Fisher's son-in-law.) It is considered a total loss. Being an older home with asbestos insulation, anything with fabric is not retreivable nor is it safe to go in without special gear and a mask.
Happy New Year to all! LaNeta's sentiments that follow are well said and worth sharing:
"It is a new year and the opportunity for fresh starts. We each have 52 promising weeks of wonderful opportunities to do good for others and our community."
Loved your story.
