HAIGLER TUMBLEWEED FESTIVAL, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11

It’s Tumbleweed Festival time again in Haigler!  The 7th annual Haigler Fall Tumbleweed Festival will be Saturday, October 11 on the Haigler Museum grounds south of Golden Rod Highway 34 and Porter Avenue.  You are invited!  The tents, tables, cornstalks, pumpkins, scarecrows, food, and live music are all out awaiting your arrival.  Weather forecasters predict a beautiful fall day Saturday after rain showers on Thursday and Friday.  Event planners encourage you to bring your lawn chair for the afternoon activities.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a decorated tumbleweed to be displayed.  Cash prizes will be given.  The art show of the last 2 years has been moved to spring when Haigler will host a Wine and Arts Festival.  There are no admission fees for the Tumbleweed Festival—just free will donations to the Community Foundation to help support the Haigler Museums.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Schedule of events include village wide garage sales from 9 a.m.-noon MDT. Site maps will be available at 'the station' on Hwy. 34 & Porter Ave. Jellies, jams, canned goods, fresh baked cookies, breads, and treats will be available to purchase. One of the garage sale sites will be at the new Cornerstone Center for Community Service (former Haigler Elementary School). The Sunshine Thrift is having a 50% off summer clearance and new fall merchandise is on display. The Cornerstone Center mini-mall will be open and showcasing booths with a variety of items, including party supplies.

Lunch begins at 1 p.m. with sloppy jo barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs, pickles, chips, and drinks. Slices of homemade pies topped with scoops of ice cream will be served at the Golden Inn Senior Center across the street from the museum grounds.

Throughout the afternoon, live music will be performed by former Haiglerite LaVoine Smith and The Garage Bunch Band from Burlington, Colorado. Special guest musicians Wes White and guitarist/songwriter Phalen Sanford of Benkelman, Nebraska will also be performing. Afternoon activities include treasure hunts, games, horseshoe pitching, maypole merry-go-round rides, pumpkin decorating, and ticket drawings for many great prizes donated by community businesses and individuals throughout the tri-state area. The annual Maypole Award will also be presented.

At 3:30 p.m. the traditional Tumbleweed/Spook Parade for kids of all ages (including adults) will begin in front of the Country Schoolhouse Museum.
