The first Haigler Gun Show and Craft Show held last
weekend, November 22 and 23, was a big success! Far exceeding the expectations
of the organizers of the event, the Cornerstone Center was filled with
attendees. How many people? Numbers were estimated to be over 600 for both
days. When the doors opened at 9 a.m., the lines were already forming. They
came from throughout the tri-state area of Kansas,
Colorado, and Nebraska to view the 38 display tables in the gymnasium, stage
area, and adjoining room for the Gun Show; and 34 display tables in the suites
and hallways for the Craft Show. Weather cooperated with a lovely 70 degree day
on Saturday; and though much cooler and windy on Sunday, the crowds still came.
Throughout
both days, a homemade canon was shot outside. Jim and Jerrie Wheaton of Haigler
did the honors of lighting the fuse. The canon was built by Jerrie's father,
Kenneth Johnston. Inside, many door prizes were given away; and the big drawing
of the day was for a Mossberg 20 gauge automatic shotgun. It was won by Linda
Seabolt of Benkelman.
The Cornerstone Center kitchen was certainly a busy place both days with homemade rolls and coffee for breakfast and chili, pies, and desserts for lunch and afternoon being served. At lest 35 pies were baked by local community volunteers. A big thank you to all the volunteers who worked hard to make this event happen.
So many requests were made to make the Shows an annual event, it looks like the second annual Haigler Gun Show and Craft Show is already on the calendar for next year--again being planned for the weekend before Thanksgiving- November 21 and 22, 2015. The Cornerstone Center and the Haigler Community Foundation will continue to host this annual event and invite you to mark your calendars now to make Haigler the center of your activities that weekend.
