Karen Hanson Lindell and I
talked to Betty Jeurink today about the church at Beecher Island and here is
Karen's report:
I just spoke with Betty Jeurink. The plans are to fill in the
basement as that does create health probems, and give it a "face
life"--so to speak. They have been given an estimate of $56,0000 for the
work. They are in contact with a person in Washington that works with boys in
helping to rebuild buildings and they are in hopes this person will help also.
The building was used last year at the
Beecher Island ceremony to show quilts. If they can restore it, it can be used
for other functions. So far they have pledges of about $35,000.00. and these
have not been large pledges, just many people want to keep the church. She
named some people (from Haigler) that have pledged among others---so if you are
interested please give Betty a call 970-332-4237 for more information and if
possible, a pledge. I did. Otherwise, it will be torn down and replaced with a
playground. This is church is not old enough to be historical as it was built
in 1950. ( The Wray Gazette sent me Carol Chapman's # also---970-332-5553).
Thank you.
