Since it was the only place in town to get a sandwich, we decided to brave it. It was silent when we walked in... No one was saying a word... Isn't it interesting how all conversation stops when "strangers" enter a room! It wasn't long, though until the buzz of conversation began again, so we breathed a sigh of relief and had our own little conversation going on.
We ordered a hamburger and a cup of coffee and began catching up on 45 years of not being in touch with each other!
We said Hi to Lester Adams, who happened to be there and chatted a minute with the owner, Craig Kemla. He told us that the two pictures we spotted on the wall were painted by Ethel Rath and were special to him because she had made them especially for him. One of them was painted from a photograph he had taken of ducks in flight. He said he has had several people want to buy them, but he won't part with them.
Jake's Place is a wonderful place to stop and take a break!
Why didn't I ask if it was named after Jake Haigler? That is probably a really dumb question!!
