I received the following email from Lois (Logan) Horn who is the daughter of Lee Logan who worked at the State Bank of Haigler up until 1929 when the stock market crashed.
DEAR
SHERRI,
I
JUST CHECKED THE HAIGLER BLOG AND READ OF THE TUMBLEWEED FESTIVAL. HOW
APPROPRIATE. AN IMAGE OF MY CHILDHOOD IN LONG PINE, NEBRASKA (AFTER
HAIGLER AND AN OHIO FARM) IS OF TUMBLEWEEDS BLOWING DOWN MAIN STREET.
I AM
90 PLUS NOW AND IN GOOD HEALTH, STILL ACTIVE IN BODY, MIND AND SPIRIT. MY
HUSBAND OF 71 YEARS PASSED AWAY AT AGE 98 THIS YEAR.
IT IS
FUN TO SEE A FEW FAMILY NAMES IN THE BLOG; PALMER, ZUEGE, ROACH,
ETC. AMAZING THAT I REMEMBER THEM SINCE WE LEFT HAIGLER IN 1929 WHEN MY
DAD'S BANK WENT BROKE BECAUSE IT WAS TIED IN WITH THE NEBRASKA BANKING SYSTEM
. ALL THE VILLAGE BANKS WENT DOWN IN ABOUT ONE FELL SWOOP.
I
REMEMBER MY MOTHER TELLING ABOUT "BILL ZUEGE" COMING TO "GIVE
HER A GOODBYE" BEFORE HE LEFT FOR, I THINK IT WAS DETROIT, "TO GET A
JESUS FOR THE CHURCH." I REMEMBER THAT WE KIDS PLAYED WITH THE
PALMER KIDS. WAS THERE A PALMER GIRL NAMED "BUNCH"? I
REMEMBER THE GIRL NAMED "BUNCH" AS A PRETTY YOUNG GIRL.
THANKS
FOR KEEPING THE MEMORIES ALIVE.
LOIS
LEE LOGAN HORN, SEATTLE, WA.
